PORCELAIN NERIKOMI: PATTERN & PROCESS
Join Jennifer for an immersive seven week exploration of porcelain nerikomi, a process that turns pigmented clay into intricate patterns embedded throughout the material itself.
Working with colored porcelain, students will learn techniques for creating patterned clay blocks, slicing and translating those patterns into finished ceramic forms.
This workshop is designed for ceramic artists and students who wish to broaden their understanding of color, pattern, and material. This workshop invites students into a slower investigation of process, experimentation, and expression through clay. The workshop concludes with a student gathering where we share finished pieces and discuss discoveries and challenges from the process, and celebrate the colorful and unique outcomes that come with this labor intensive and rewarding technique.
Throughout seven weeks, students will:
Learn foundational and exploratory nerikomi techniques
Construct patterned slabs and clay blocks
Explore composition, color, and surface design
Receive individualized feedback and guidance throughout the making process
Create finished functional or sculptural works
All materials are provided and included in the cost of the workshop.
This class meets on Thursday evenings from 6-9 PM for 7 weeks starting August 27th.
****Discounts cannot be applied to this intensive class.
